Amber Mixon

Clinical Focus

Amber brings a unique combination of veterinary experience, animal welfare advocacy, and practice leadership to Coastal Animal Clinic. She began working in general veterinary practice at a young age with hopes of becoming a veterinarian, but eventually discovered that her passion for shelter medicine and protecting animals in need was calling her in a different direction. In 2015, she became a Certified Animal Cruelty Investigator, pursuing a career dedicated to animal welfare and helping animals who could not advocate for themselves.

Over the years, Amber has worked across general practice, emergency medicine, internal medicine, surgery, and shelter medicine, giving her a broad understanding of both veterinary care and the people who provide it. In 2020, she transitioned into veterinary practice management, a role that brought her back to another passion: supporting the people behind the medicine.

She is especially passionate about staff advocacy, mental health, and helping veterinary professionals navigate the unique challenges of a demanding and deeply rewarding field. At Coastal, Amber strives to create an environment where both pets and the people who care for them feel supported, respected, and valued.

Home Life

Outside the clinic, Amber is happiest somewhere near the water. She is a USCG-licensed boat captain and has a particular fascination with the ocean, especially sharks. When she's not working, she enjoys traveling, fishing, kayaking, and making the most of Florida's coastal waters.

At home, she shares her life with Pop Pop, an extremely opinionated cat who apparently has very strong ideas about how the household should be run. She also helps care for her mom's pittie, Brixton James, who has formed a particularly special friendship with Pop Pop. The unlikely pair are besties, because apparently even a monster of a cat can make room for a dog when the friendship is right.
